Regulatory aspects

Enzymes are widely used in many food, feed and technical applications ranging from baking, detergents, textile processing to biofuels. They are attractive catalysts, enabling these various industries to guarantee the quality and stability of its products with increased production efficiency.

All enzymes – irrespective of their downstream application – undergo rigorous safety evaluation, and must meet strict safety standards according to the national Regulations that are in place. In their enzyme manufacturing plants, AMFEP members maintain the highest standards of quality assurance and safety.

Current EU regulations, guidelines and standards ensure that the entire manufacturing process follows rigorous requirements, to ensure safety and robustness of the sector’s quality system. Depending on the specific application of enzymes, different EU rules would apply.
